Drop and Give Him Five!
How are your toes today? I hope yours are strappy-sandal ready but mine, dear sisters, are broken and bloody. That would be because C.S. Lewis through his book, The Screwtape Letters, has stomped all over them. Stomped and jumped and then flattened with the Mashed Potato Dance. I am knocked off my feet for a moment but in this case it is a good thing because I have been reminded I should be on my knees anyway…..read more
Wow! How I can sympathize. That book really had an effect on me as well. I read it about 10 years ago when I was in college and there are definitely parts that I am still reminded of today!
Take care!
Amy
I do not do a lot of reading except in Gods word, but it sounds like this is a book that I may just have to make time to read. Sounds great!
Thank you for sharing this. I am a fairly new reader of your blog and I clicked over to your devotional. It has inspired me to write a posting about this very subject as well. I’ll join you in dropping and giving Him five!
YOU are killing me. WOW …….what conviction! I too will do my best to take the challenge and because I am such a follower of rules (which can lead to legalism on my part ) I will do it and remember you when I don’t want to!
I will do it this morning before heading off to have “THE” tube removed.
I’ve not read this book yet but I just asked my friend Kellie for CS Lewis stuff on Tuesday. She is getting me this book and Mere Christianity and others. I’ve been wanting to read them for a long time and just haven’t felt I have the brain for it but I intend to read them now…..all your chatting has convicted me about it.
Thanks! =)
Mindy
Hello! I found you through a trace from bluemountainmommas blog….
Anyway, I own a very tattered and well-loved copy of the screwtape letters. I try to read it through once a year or so. Recently an exerpt that “bloodied my toes” was concerning the “gluttony of decadence”. I try hard to not over-eat, because, as we all know, that is a sin. However, I hadn’t ever given much thought to the gluttony of decadence, and that action of the heart in giving over to the flesh- if only for a moment- for the sake of a small, tasty morsel.
Of course, all of this has to be tempered with the fact that God gave us food to enjoy, and he delights in us when we enjoy the things He made for us! All things in moderation, as it says!
Hmmm, maybe I need to post about this!!!. Sorry I’m going on and on on a new blog (to me)!
I better get going- I have a lot of food to make- ha ha!
I am enjoying your writings so much. I also enjoy C.S. Lewis and this is one of my favorite reads for a wake up call when I realize I am slipping in some areas.
Great great post Lisa!
I accepted your challenge to drop and give Him five!
