Thankful Thursday
This has been a tremendously stressful week, however, it is in these times when we need to be thankful all the more! The verse I am holding on to this week is an old favorite for many of us:
“Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksiving let your requests be known to God.” Philippians 4:6
1. I am not thankful my Suburban needs a new engine. However, I am thankful a wonderful man in our church let us borrow a van until we get it fixed. When the bad things happen, you find out how much you are really loved.
2. I am thankful the only sorrow I have today is one that money can fix (the car again:) I say all the time, “if money can fix it, it is not a problem”. I think of dear friends who have situations in their lives that money can not even begin to touch. I’ve had many seasons like this too, but I am so grateful I’m not in one today.
3. I am thankful that God knows I need a job! For reasons I do not understand, He has seen fit to remove our cleaning service out of our lives. It was very stressful and being continuously treated badly by employees and employers captures my thoughts and breaks my heart entirely too much. He knows I need some kind of employment where I can be home with the children. He knows our ministry life prevents me from punching a clock. He knows I am not cut out to sell stuff. I’m thanking Him in advance for working out the details of our lives. I don’t know in what form He will do this, but I trust Him and whatever He decides will be for our Good!
4. I am forever thankful for the blogging community and the outlet it gives to serve God in this season of life I am in. I am overwhelmed at the wonderful women who are participating in the ‘I AM’ study. You are ministering to me in ways you can not fathom! Thank you for being a part of my life!
5. I am thankful for WARM! I am just so tired of being cold at the ballfields and this week has been absolutely lovely. I love watching my boys play ball and my little girl play in the dirt. I love watching my husband help with their teams. He is a wonderful father and a godly example to our children.
6. I am thankful for three opportunities to speak at women’s events this month. I love teaching God’s word to women more than you can imagine though I often believe they teach me more than I could ever teach them. In a word, it is exhilirating! Thank you, Lord!
7. I love that I have a husband that will go to the store for me when I realize I am out of Diet Dr. Pepper and I just can not live one more minute without one….Thanks, preacher!
For more praise and gratitude, go visit Iris at Sting My Heart! Have a great Thursday!! :))
Lisa, how old is your suburban? I don’t want to think about mine ever needing a new engine but it is 5 years old. urgh, I’m glad someone loaned you a van though.
I love your list, and your study is a great blessing too!
What a Great list of thankfuls…..you are such a huge encouragement to me….thanks for the I Am study! Just to answer your question about the CD project…as soon as it’s done I will try to figure a way to post some clips so people can hear it….it may be a July or August before it’s done.
Thanks for blessings me with your visit to my blog!
You are awesome! I am so uplifted by your faith and I wish I could hear you speak!! That is one great hubby- coaching teams and making Dr. Pepper runs…it doesn’t get any better than that!
Loved the bible study yesterday. I may not get around to posting on the questions but I’ve been pondering them.
Love you!
How cool is it that we quoted the same verse today??? I love what you said about “if money can fix it, it’s not a problem”…How profound!!! Thanks for reminding me that things are just THINGS and that when we fix our eyes on Jesus, we realize what is important. I also wanted to thank you again for the I AM Study. I feel so blessed to be part of it!
What a beautiful list! And, so true…if money can fix it, it is not a problem!
This is a very sincere, honest list. I’m sure it touched everybody because undoubtedly during this week, we’ve had things go wrong. Most people will relate to that first off. Then you showed perspective and faith that will inspire others. Thanks for this post.
I have a preacher husband like that:-)
I’m so sorry about your Suburban…I know a lot about car woes…but your outlook is so inspiring and encouraging…
Such a nice list. I remember so many afternoons and evenings sitting in bleachers, just freezing half to death. I’m always thankful for warm weather.
I hope you come up with a solution to the the job dilema. Somehow, I’m betting the perfect opportunity will be revealed to you, soon.
Thanks for sharing your thankful heart.
OK.. come back to ROme so you can preach to us… wouldn’t you be awesome..
I am just thankful for your teaching… it is AWESOME…
You are teaching me so much.. an answered prayer…
I have been asking God for women to come into my life that were godly and could be a ministry…
I didn’t expect it to be like this..blogging.
just like in this weeks ‘I AM’ lesson.. this is a great example of another one…
This sure didn’t look like what I expected… but our God works in mysterious and wonderful ways….
THanks Lisa…
Lisa, I have a hubby who makes Diet Coke runs for me. Aren’t they the greatest. I smiled when I saw you had written ‘thanks preacher’ to him. So cute! I’m going to add you to my prayer list. I just know God is working right now to put things into place for you to have the perfect job. Hey… there’s a contest you can enter to earn $80,000 for one year to just blog daily. Wouldn’t that be a cool job.
It’s at http://www.blogforayear.com – check it out and LMK if you enter.
This was a great Thankful post. I love the honesty and everyday-ness of it – you are quite a gal! Thanks for the inspiration.
Praying with expectation that just the right job will become available to you! I would love to hear you speak as well. My husband always says if money can fix it, its not a problem! Although hes says from time to time, I just wish it wasn’t my money! LOL He is such a positive person!
You have such a precious heart. You can see it in your list.
I love Diet Dr. Pepper too! Mmm Mmm, good.
So true about not worrying about something if money can fix it. Nevertheless, I know what a pain car trouble is. Ugh!
I’m excited to find out what God has in store for you!
Thanks for sharing your thankful list–it’s so encouraging!
blessings~
I love your Thankful Thursdays!
I am thankful for you creating the I Am Bible Study. Without your study, I wouldn’t have one to do right now. It is harder to do one alone and this venue allows me to ‘feel’ like others are doing this with me! So thank you!
Diet Dr. Pepper is your vice – hehe…Mine right now is Diet Pepsi…I wish I wouldn’t have started with pop again, but we get it free at work :)…
I am so sorry to hear that your car needs a new engine, but thankful that you have people around you that will help you out.
You are right, there are situation that can not be fixed with money…thank you for the reminder.
As for your Bible study–I am now three weeks behind *sigh* — I hope to catch up this weekend.
Thank you so much for sharing your gratitude with us this week. I know that the Lord has already a place of employment in mind for you–He just has to work out the details.
Blessings on your Thursday evening and always.
PS: I’ll talked to Laurel on the phone today and we will meet for lunch tomorrow–I am so giddy :)
These are all such wonderful things to be thankful for! I especially love that you say, “If money can fix it, then it’s not a problem!” That just hit me like a bolt out of the blue, for I worry about money all too often. And compared to the worries others carry, it is truly nothing.
I will be praying for you as God leads you to employment at home!
Lisa, thanks for the gratitude reminders. When I have a bit more time to contribute to my blog (after the next 2 weeks–a flurry of activity at our house!), I want to do Sting My Heart’s Thankful Thursdays, too. There’s no better way to focus on what’s real than to be grateful.
After you bragged on the preacher about going to the store for your Diet Dr. Pepper, he told you to get your own Diet Coke at the ball field last night. Must have been because the guys were around.Haha.
bless that man at your church
bless your hubby
