Welcome Home, I Reckon!
For those of you who have been around here for a while, you’ve heard me talk about The Preacher’s beloved truck, the Blue Goose. Now you have to understand that though Goose isn’t the most lovely vehicle in town, hubby loves her. She has been faithful and most importantly, paid for. There has never been any mistaking when he has been visiting about town or running some errand here or there because the blue of this truck commands attention. ‘There goes The Preacher’, passers-by will say and he will happily wave back forever in awe that God has blessed him with a ministry that allows him to meet people where they are and simply love them. Hubs enjoyes the pulpit but he is happiest beating the bushes whether it be to cut someone’s grass or lend an ear to a soul who just needs to know there is someone who cares. He does care, ya’ll. More than you can imagine and it is just one of the reasons I love him so.
But, I can also safely tell you there is no amount of sentiment that would prevent Luke from trading in the Goose for this:
Now hold on to your seats for this one…
We got home from vacation on Saturday and though we were sad it was over, we were excited to get back to church the next morning. It was Father’s Day and at the end of the service, our wonderful deacon chairman A. called Luke and me to the stage and proceeded with telling us through tears how much he loved our church and family. (I can assure you the feeling is completely mutual.)
He then called out R., the deacon who had played the ‘We Got You a New Truck‘ joke only to present hubs with a shiny TOY Ford. A. asked R. to come to the stage because he was going to have him formally apologize before the congregation for that terrible incident. Now Luke and I are a little uncomfortable for this dear guy because we adore him and have hoped this fiasco was long behind us. But upon coming to the stage, R. pulled a key from his pocket and asks us to go outside of the church…
We walked outside with 200 people behind us and this truck is what was waiting for us. It is a brand new Chevrolet Silverado, paid for even down to the tags. Luke and I immediately burst into tears and we haven’t really stopped yet.
I told the crowd then and I’ll tell you now – when you bless my dear husband, you bless me. When you encourage him, you encourage me. When you tell him you love him, you’ve loved me. He has never owned a new vehicle in his 40 years and to say this is an overwhelming gift just doesn’t do the matter justice. I am absolutely swollen with pride to see my preacher finally have a vehicle that people will want to ride in instead of calling to say, “Let’s go to lunch. And by the way, I’ll drive”. Seeing his face was like seeing a boy again – and you know how boys like their toys. He is absolutely smitten with his.
This morning as I walked, I put the iPod on shuffle and asked God to ordain my praise and worship. Oh did He ever. Every song was one of thanksgiving to the point I had to stop and raise my hands while crying my eyes out. I know the guy who was unloading stock into the grocery store not far from my walking track was thinking I had lost my ever loving mind but that just has to be okay today. I have a lot to be grateful for. My God continues to take my breath away so if that means I’ve got to raise my hands to him in front of a stockboy from time to time, so be it.
To my church family – Thank you will never be enough. How do we express to you how much we love you? How much you have made us feel like we have always been a part of your lives? How much we feel like you’ve always been a part of ours? How can you know how much we praise the Lord because of you? We will never be able to say enough or do enough to convey our gratitude but we’ll never get over trying. Thank you, thank you, thank you for this indescribable gift.
2 Cor. 9:10 – 11 ‘Now He who supplies seed to the sower and bread
for food will supply and multiply your seed for sowing and increase the
harvest of your righteousness; you will be enriched in everything for all
liberality, which through us is producing thanksgiving to God.”
Wow, that’s really neat!
I’m sure you and the Preacher deserve it. :)
I am crying just reading this =))
Awesome, how God works through others for us……
What an amazing church fellowship you have…. and what an amazing gift…thanks so much for sharing.
Blessings
I cannot imagine the surprise and immediate love you must have felt! My heart is filled with joy just reading this! Praise the Lord!!
Tell Preacher I’ll try not to high hat him on the road…it’s going to take some getting used to…being it’s not blue and all! HA!
I have been waiting all day to read this! It was the most awesome moment I have experienced in watching someone receive a blessing! I do not know a couple more deserving. What a blessing and inspiration you are to our family! We love you!
Wow- our church did this for my husband too. He drove a 1974 Ford for 18 years – a real bucket of bolts! Now he has a new Ford F250 and I know what you mean about seeing the boy come out! I’m happy for you guys! God’s people are the best people in the world! What a privilege it is to serve Him by serving them!
Okay, I’m sitting here being SO excited for y’all! I almost feel like *we* just got a truck! This is wonderful, just wonderful. What a precious congregation you have. I can tell this is an outpouring of how they’ve been blessed by you and Luke. :)
Wow, Lisa, that is so awesome! You church family must really love you and your husband! I am so happy and excited for you!
From a fellow ‘preachers wife’, I’ve been through feeling totally appreciated and blessed (and not). Even though I don’t know you, I am truly ‘rejoicing with those who are rejoicing’. What an amazing blessing from your church family, and really from our awesome God!
Speaking as a pastor’s daughter, my smile could not get any bigger right now.
Dear Lisa,
What you reap you sow! And you’ve sown so much good this is only what you deserve! Enjoy cruising!

What an awesome testimony! I can see why your tears are still flowing. God is indeed a good God.
Thanks for sharing.
I am speechless………..how fabulous! And what a loving congregation they are! — AND this gift really shows how much THEY love you all!
GOD IS GOOD!!!!
This WestEnd is near the coast actually. Renata did tell me about your experience (some any way) at the WestEnd you served at. We are hoping this is a good church that just needs a good compassionate Pastor.. they’ve been without for two years.. and their precious Pastor was from what we understand very “non-people-ish”… just preached.. but didnt really reach out to the peopla AT ALL.
Theres a lot that could be done. Its near Greenville, NC … thats the closest larger city.
Lisa, I can honestly say that I have been more excited about this than I have been about any vehicle I have ever owned! The day we stood in my yard discussing your broken down suburban I was dying to give you a big hug and say “don’t worry! It’s going to all be fine! We’re getting you a new truck!” But I knew that I would have been in serious trouble had I spilled the beans! I hope you guys enjoy every second of cruising in it! Those boys of yours were looking pretty pumped about it yesterday!
Lisa!
How exciting and what a kind and generous church family you have! It makes me want to cry! I am so happy for your husband and for you. What will become of the blue goose? :o)
Obviously the people(at church) think that much of you both.
My husband and I were talking this weekend about how hard it is to sometimes receive gifts…but sometimes too the receiving is part of what makes it all so special.
Just the time I have gotten to know you, I know you would not be without someone(your husband) special. You two so deserve this and most certainly have humbly received this awesome gift.
I know it will be used in God’s honor..
in other words, I”m so excited. and you’ll probably get him to go to the store for you for many days to come.. smile
glad you guys are back,, ,really missed you
What an amazing gift….this post made me cry too….Thanks for sharing this!
Blessings
Rejoicing with you! And I have done the praise-raised hands while jogging before! I couldn’t NOT do it! So i totally know where you’re coming from. anyway, I’m happy for you both!
I am so happy for you all! Not just for the truck but to be so loved by your congregation!! I have to say that by far, Americans are the most giving people on earth!!!! And especially Christians!
I have such a joy in my heart for you all!
Wow, that’s like something right out of “Facing the Giants”! How cool for you and especially your man. I know my husband cares more about being appreciated than he does about the size of his paycheck. And to know how much he’s appreciated is probably the best gift for your man….the truck, however, must be a close second ’cause this is the south and he is a guy!
Oh, and welcome back!
I’m just sneaking a break from my bedroom project….but I must get back now. I promised the man that phase one would be ready for his part of the process by the time he gets back from the store….
What a beautiful way to bless you!
Lisa, I am rejoicing with you and the preacher over this incredible, generous gift from your congregation. I know that you deserved this — you two are incredible witnesses to His love.
Thank you so much for sharing your joy.
Blessings to you and yours.
Wow! What a story! I’m so very happy for you and your family, and your church! It sounds like God knew what he was doing when He fit you and Luke into that body. Tears of joy. Tears of joy. Be so blessed, my friend.
actually i like the Blue Gooses colour
congratulations on your new truck
God is good
bless your church family
Now THAT’S what the Body of Christ is all about. What a beautiful testimony of your ministry to these people. May God continue to bless you all.
:-) Susan
I am crying along with you! I love it!
Oh, friend – you are so blessed! Not just the truck – but to have a church family so in love with your family! God has blessed you through them, and you deserve it!
Wow, I have been so blesseed by this story, I cant even tell you.
Tell hubby to enjoy his new truck. Will he save the blue goose for one of your boys. If they are like my boys they will not be thrilled. lol.
Blessings,
Julie
