Works For Me Wednesday
The past few weeks, I have been trying every conceivable way to limit drinking Diet Coke. You have no idea how painful this has been for me. Diet Coke makes me very, very happy. Because I can barely remember my own name anymore from the formaldehyde, aspertame, and other nutritious ingredients, I have decided I am going to limit the number I drink in a day. Here are a couple of things that are helping me do it:
1. I love canned drinks so I have only been refrigerating the two I am alotting myself in a day. I don’t like D. Coke on ice so I am less likely to drink them if they aren’t ice cold in the fridge.
2. When I do drink one, I force myself to drink twice as much water as the Diet Coke. Did I mention I absolutely hate water? My own warped sense of nutrition tells me somehow this dilutes all the cancer causing agents in the DC. And besides, shouldn’t it be obvious drinking filtered sewage is so much better for you?
3. I only drink 1/2 a can at a time because, Egads! This plan is actually working! I never dreamed I would say this, but my beloved sodas are beginning to taste so sweet to me now that, [GASP], they aren’t quite as good any more therefore I don’t drink as much at one sitting. Now, I didn’t say I like water more, just DC less. Soon, I’ll dehydrate if I don’t find an acceptable liquid alternative.
Don’t know if any of the rest of you are detoxing, but if you are, hopefully what works for me will work for you!
Go check out Shannon at Rocks in My Dryer for other great WFMW tips! :))
Great ideas! I need to try that, because I drink WAY too much soda!
I love my diet cokes too, but I know I really should limit how many I have. I’m trying, but it’s oh so hard. Your ideas are great. Thanks.
Hugs!

I am also trying to detox. I have been drinking a lot of ice tea, very watered down, so it is almost like water. I also hate plain water.
Have you tried the flavored waters they sell at Target? My daughter loves them (I think they are ok) and they also have 0 calories and give the water a little punch.
Hope you are successful! I heart me some diet coke too!
Oh my… I am a sweet tea addict, but the sugar has contributed a few, ok 20 (!), extra pounds on my hips- agh! So diet coke has become my drink of choice, but I am a little concerned about destroying any more precious brain cells than I need to! These are great tips- I am going to try them today.
I love me some diet coke. :) But I need to cut back too, and water is eeewww. (Makes me feel a little better that I’m not the only one). I usually drink lots of decaf iced tea (very weak) and that helps give it a little flavor!
I am going to have to try your plan-I am an avid Dr Dr Pepper drinker-6 to 7 cans a day! And I HATE water too!
Thanks for the tip!
Yup… trying to cut back on my Diet Pepsi IV bag over here. The IV pole is getting a bit cumbersome! I use a few of your tricks and will try the ones I don’t! I’ve also discovered that I don’t mind drinking water with my meals (much) so I can save my DP for the afternoon guzzle.
Good luck with your dc diet…you’re a stronger woman than I am ;).
I’ve just been reading here for a week or two. Thought I’d delurk today. I’m also not a big fan of water and trying to cut back my pop drinking. I have started buying the Walmart version of Crystal Light. It’s Great Value Sugar Free Drink Mix. Anyway, it’s 0 calories, very low sodium, and flavors my water so that it’s yummy. I guess it still does have aspartame in it, so maybe that won’t work for you. But, I just thought I would share my tip for getting all that water in!
I drink way to much Coke! I haven’t figured out a way to cut it down yet though. I cannot stand water. Once in a very great while I don’t mind some bottled water, but I am always out & it is always after I finished my 20oz of pop, lol. About the only other thing I can stand is tea (hot or cold) but I put SO much sugar in it, I’m not even sure if it is any better then pop.
Come to my place and I’ll give you the best water ever. Really…our water district wins the “best tasting water in NY State” award quite often, and is always in the top 5. (It’s called Greenlawn Water District.) I can’t stand water from any other place. You can taste the metal from the pipes, or something else icky, in it! When we visit my mom in Ohio, I prefer bottled water.
It’s funny…I hate Pepsi, but I like Diet Pepsi. I love Coke, but I hate Diet Coke. I like your idea to keep only the two in the fridge so you are not tempted!
glad you are weaning yourself from diet coke! you’ll probably live longer that way. :) stick with water… its good for your metabolism (yes, speeds things up) and clears your skin (although your skin looks great in your thumbnail pic!) and keeps your brain cells moving so you can study the bible more…. now THAT’S incentive!
and, cyprus huh? you ARE a nerd. but you’re in luck ~ i work at the seminary library and i LOVE nerds!!
he he!
I am going to use your first tip of only keeping two Dr. Peppers in the fridge at a time. I think that will really help me wean myself off of them. I hate drinking water, but I think slowly I will get used to it. I think I’ll go have a Dr. Pepper right now and think about it.
Well, I am currently detoxing from DP (Diet Pepsi)…I have found a great ice-tea mixture that I will throw in the water – if you like peach, you might want to try it :)
Blessings to you and yours.
I had to give up Diet Coke/Pepsi several years ago when I had to give up caffeine. I drink decaf tea with wild abandon though, always sweet (Splenda–my best friend), with ice and lemon like any good southern girl should drink it.
