Just in case anyone has been looking for me, I can be easily spotted by looking for the girl with brown paint on her tail end. Yes, I’ve been painting. The garage to be exact. Luke and I are converting it to a second den/playroom for the kids as the largest part of their Christmas. We were going to do it anyway, but finishing up now means we have an excuse to not buy as many toys for Christmas.
We are just evil geniuses that way.
I’m working on the touch ups now. Is it just me, or are white baseboards the worse? I taped them up only to have the brown leak through onto the white. Then I touched up the white which ended up on the brown again. It’s like a tennis match with paint ~ back and forth, back and forth. Where does it end??? The madness of it all has driven me to drink 5 Diet Dr. Peppers today. I KNOW. Just this morning I had decided I was laying off the the cancer in a bottle and only drinking water. Oh stinkin’ well.
I am officially in an aspertame coma.
Now what was I saying?
Oh, yes. The room. It is really coming along quite nicely if I do say so myself. Luke and I have only fought once during the project which is a miracle. What did he do you say?
Let me tell you.
After I had painted for hours, I was letting the first coat dry and inspecting what would need a second. I had it all figured out. Knew it needed some more work. No big deal.
But Mr. Tim Taylor comes along with a work light, shines it on my walls and says, “Missed right there. That is thin up there. See where you missed it? That is definitely going to need a second coat.”
Oh, ya think?
Good thing I’m a good Southern Baptist Girl. The submission clause is the only thing that kept me from knocking his block off.
Okay. So ya’ll know I’m kiddin’. I love that man o’ mine and he did paint the ceilings which I despise with a red hot heat. You could say this is one more bonding experience that makes our love grow yet stronger.
Here’s a little sneak preview of our progresss:
This is the load of junk we’ve got to move – somewhere.
After.
After. Before.
I can not wait to get this thing done. If it turns out too cool, Luke and I may give the kids the other living room and commandeer this one.
Did I mention we are evil geniuses?
Stay tuned. I’m going to need help with furniture placement..:)
Oh, my WORD I get paint all over me when I paint, and my Diet DP is always nearby as well. We must be soul sisters. The room looks great so far, I love that shade!
I love the progress, what a fun gift– for all of you!
wow! great job…your before looked like a garage…your after looks like great potential room…i am trying to clean OUT my garage before Christmas to put a SCOUT in it—long story…very motivating what you have done! yessirree..off to the garage…
Looks beautiful! I love that color. When I started putting color on my walls instead of just off-white, I ran into the bleeding problem. I get the whole tennis match thing very well. In one room, I have a cranberry wall against a dark green wall. Yikes. Anyway, congrats on the new room and the solid marriage!
OK – as a fellow pw, I have to ask — how easy was it for you to get to do this to the parsonage? I have a den with ahem (ugly) huge paneling in it and I asked to paint it and the lady looked at my like I had 3 heads…… I’m so glad that you get to do this!!!! love – Mindy
That looks beautiful!! The home we moved into did not require painting/changing this time and I feel I need to paint something but I will live vicariously through you!
Looking forward to seeing the finished project. BTW…I will take the SEC title because no one is more surprised than a VOL fan. LOL!!! Of course we really don’t think we are going to the Sugar Bowl but football is just plain weird this season. As I have told you I love them DAWGS and I hope they end up playing the National Championship game and winning it!! Plus they have pretty uniforms. LOL!!
Looks Great!!! can’t wait to see the finished Den!! what a treat for your kids somewhere to play and leave all there stuff!! I know the felling of not having a play room my son’s toys can be found everywhere.marina
Well done! Did you do ALL the work yourselves–sheetrock, windows, the whole nine yards? I am well impressed! I love to paint, but I am S-L-O-W…I think I’ve painted every room in our house at least once! I have a paint chip taped up in our half bath for like a year now, but can’t get myself motivated. Perhaps you will inspire me?
5 DP’s?? If I drank that many, I’d have to be painting the bathroom, I’d be in there so much! I’m VERY impressed — with your perseverance, your kidneys, your marriage, and the room. You go, girl!
(And tell your hubby to be nice or he won’t get his turn with the Wii!)
What a great idea! Love it! What are you doing for the floor? Do you have central air and heat out there? I’ll have to show my husband your finished product. :) Looking great!
It looks GREAT so far!! Y’all are seriously amazing. You were cracking me up with the one arguement. That is really good! My hubby and I would have had a lot more than one probably by now. :-)
Looks good! I can drink 5 diet d.p’s in no time!! Not the greatest thing to brag about I know, but it has been done! And my hubby and I would have had MANY more “discussions” by this time! But like you, being the good Southern Baptist Minister’s Wife…….Okay, let me be real here….I wouldn’t have submitted quite so easily! I AM working on that!!!
Your description of the Battle of the Paint Drips is spot-on. I love to paint, but I hired painters to do everything when we moved in August. They do such a nice job and make everything look so pretty.
(Can I come live in your garage when it’s done? Because it’s 7 degrees here.)
I am MOST impressed girlfriend!! You are so good to do that…I would kill my hubs and 14 other people because God did not give me the gift of patience and this project would be difficult for me! So…i’m proud of you. And I’m jealous of your skills! :)
thanks Lisa, it really meant alot to my Dad we had not all been together for a while mainly b/c my younger sister is a fly attendent for continental airlines and that is a very busy season for them. However she has been with them now for 25 years can you belive that!!marina PS, can’t wait to see your room!!
Lisa, Looking great! I just finished remodeling the boys (and guest) bathroom. I understand the tennis match with the paint! I still have some touch up. I hope to post the pics on my blog soon. Like you, only one incident with the hub. Arent they great during projects? Oh yeah, the submission clause–have to respect them! I love your gift of humor! I enjoyed visiting today. Blessings in Christ–

I cannot stand painting…I love the finished look, but hate the battles it causes.

You are blessed to have the room to be able to do that for your children and they are blessed to have parents who think of them so much.
