A resolution with no clear direction
I’m typing to you this fine evening from my wonderful new laptop which has appropriately found a comfy home in my ample lap. The fam and I are watching our beloved Georgia Dawgs in the Sugar Bowl and life is good. Real good. Especially since we are currently leading Hawaii. Speaking of Hawaii, even though they are going down, baby, you have to love their heart. The players have this really cool native dance they do before their games that makes me want to get in touch with my inner tribal girl.
And wouldn’t that be a sight to behold?
I’ve been thinking about this blog for the past couple of weeks. Things I want to change as well as the things I want to change. (Okay, that sentence began as a typo but I realize it’s actually pretty accurate :) One change coming soon will be in design and I SO can not wait. I’ve had wall colors in my house last less time than the ones currently on my blog so it’s time for some freshening up.
If I am going to stick with this blogging thing I want to have a purpose statement attached with my presence online. I also love this “What I Believe” Statement and plan to incorporate it here somewhere. I’ve also been praying about whether the time is right to establish the name for this vague ministry I have in my mind. Something about giving something a name makes it real instead of just a figment of my imagination. I want 2008 to be a year marked by the ‘new thing’ Christ promises He’ll always be bringing about and I feel its time to put what’s in my heart onto paper.
Firstly, about this ministry name thing. I’ve always been drawn by this scripture:
And let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds. Let us not give up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but let us encourage one another–and all the more as you see the Day approaching. Hebrews 10:-24-25
This scripture speaks to me about the importance of the community of faith in spurring one another on as Christ’s return is imminent. I love the thought of our being drawn closer to one another as Jesus draws us closer to Him. With that said, I love the name ‘Approaching Day Ministries’.
What do you think?
I have a few ideas I’ve been kicking around and it would mean a lot to me to have your input about which, if any, would minister most to you. So cool, let’s have a poll:
Thank you so much for letting me sound off you. It means the world to me to have such a fantastic group of women in my life. I will never take you for granted or stop being grateful for your visits, comments, and encouragement. Sorry this post is so stream of consciousness…Kids screaming, husband cheering at the tv – you girls understand don’t you?
Now, I’d better go watch me some more Dawgs…:)
p.s. Don’t forget to go check out the cool stuff going on at the Internet Cafe. And grab the new button while you are there! :)
lisa…visitng you always brightens my day…i am beginning a new ministry this year also…so i will walk this path with you…may the spirit of a new year fill your home with an abundance of love, laughter, and joy…may the magic of the moment bring peace to your heart all year long…much love you and your family…rebecca
Wow, you are on the ball this New Year’s night (oops, no pun intended!) I voted for Miscellaneous. . . I’m blessed to be very involved in Bible Study in our church that’s pretty time-consuming. Don’t know that I could bite off another one. But one thing I love about you is how you weave Godly truths into your everyday experiences. Sometimes my biggest struggle (I think it’s called being human!) is the disconnect between the knowledge and the application (Paul hit the nail on the head with his “the good that I want to do, that I don’t do, etc.” discussion in Romans 7:15-25!) Anything to help remind me to live it and not leave it at the study chair is wonderful!
Don’t know if that’s helpful ‘cuz I don’t know how that translates into the ministry blogsphere. But whatever you decide, I’ll be here supporting and rooting and praying for you!
I voted miscellaneous but couldn’t find box to elaborate…I think you take life as it is and point people in direction of “this is the way, walk in it” says your God…whether it’s at Wal-Mart getting bumped by the square dancers or transforming the wicked garage into a playroom…nothnig mundane on this blog…it’s about the Mystery of walking humbly and purposefully with HIM.
The Bible Study is what drew me to your blog. I’d love to see that continue. With 3 young kids, and a husband in the Navy, I can’t get involved in the women’s fellowship at my church. I don’t have any guarantee that DH will be here to take care of the kids while I’m off “studying” and we do not have anyone in the area we can call on as a sitter (or the funds to pay one if we did).
I love the online Bible study, and love that we can come together and comment back forth, like a long distance fellowship group. I had been praying for an alternative to the Women’s Fellowship that I couldn’t attend, and somehow I found your blog. An answer to prayer. Here’s a Bible study I can do, and not have to pay someone else to do the job God gave me, care for my kids.
Thanks.
I love the name “Approaching Day Ministries”. That is what we are working towards, and like the verse says we need to spur each other on because of it. We cannot lose heart! I love the Bible Study, but am blessed with your site in general. I love how God is using the internet to allow us from all over to grow together and see the enlarged community of the Saint! God Bless!
Wow, some exciting stuff ahead!
I didn’t vote, but I would choose your transparency and honesty as you seek to navigate life here in the real world as the Day approaches! ;-)
You always have a wonderful post. I did vote and wanted you to know that I love visiting you here! Keep going where God leads you. Love You!
I voted for more Bible study, even though I haven’t done “I AM” yet, simply because I love that great Bible studies are available online. Not only is it great for women who don’t have the opportunity to fellowship at their church, it’s perfect for missionaries and other servants all over the world.
That said, the things that really draw me here, Lisa, are your transparent spirit, your gift of laughter and your passion for knowing God in the midst of our daily lives. And I can’t imagine you losing any one of those things. Blog on, dude!
I am new to your blog and love it. I can’t wait to see what you do in 2008!
Oh you make me laugh. You are too kind. I would do the happy dance if you added me to your blog roll. I’m still trying to figure out how to do one myself. And I am soooooo honored that you quoted me at your retreat.
It’s so nice to meet you!
Sweet Blessings!
Hi Lisa – I voted for more Bible study, even though I just started and haven’t put any entries up on my blog yet (still working on it in my bedside journal). But it’s what drew me to your site in the first place and it’s a wonderful study that really touches me. This is my first comment. Happy New Year & God bless. :)
I did it! I thought I commented, but it’s not showing as fast as usual so I’ll try again. I apologize if it comes across twice. I’d be honored if you stopped by for a visit!
I love coming here because you make me smile and I see God working in your life and lives of those who visit here. I’m sure what ever direction you take will be fabulous.
Happy New Year,
Julie
p.s. I would pay big money to see you do a tribal dance. I’m just sayin.
I am new to your blog and have not done your Bible study yet. That is how I found you though. I’d be interested in possibly participating in one this year, depending on what other study I’m working on at the time. God bless you in 2008!
I love coming here and can’t wait to see what God does with your ministry! I know you have a lot to share with the blogosphere.
Hugs,
Susan
Happy New Year, Lisa! I didn’t vote, because I didn’t know which one to vote for! I promise I will do so, though. But, after reading the comments, I do love what Bev said about your blog, it’s so true. You are the real thing. I love it!
Coming back to vote…
Lindsee
Happy New Year! I love the name. I am looking forward to see how God will use you this year. I pray God will bless your willingness to follow Him on this journey! It’s all about the trip, my friend! To follow God you have to be adventurous!!
Laura
Lisa,
When you get a chance, drop by a pick up your award!

I love randomness! Happy New Year!

Hello, I like chage also. Go for it. I enjoy all of your writings so what ever you decide is good with me. Have a great day.
Love and Hugs,
Lisa, I voted miscellaneous b/c I really don’t have tiem for an online bible study since I am invole in one at my church and that takes up alot of reading and looking up things in the blble. However ,I do love the way you write stories some of the things that happens in your daily life minster to me I think more b/c its a daily things each day is differnt than the other and sometimes you need to laugh and then other times you need to see what the Lord has to say ,,I don’t know if these helps you? But I think alot of people are drawn to you by your stories. And your wounderful sense of Humor, love marina
PS. I just read WHAT I BLEIVE..and I have been feeling like that for some time now I feel like some of the churches today have lost there meaning and are to often guided by todays culture is ture ..sometimes I feel like everything is so sugar coated and when you want to sepake to someone in the church they are to busy or on there cell,or they don’t look at you in the eye’s b/c they are too busy watching the time and going on to the next thing what ever it is,there are times when after bible study you just want to sit and talk about God and eveyone is gone on there way …what has happen to sharing?? maybe I feel it more b/c I live in a bigger city and we have so many mega churches that it’s so hard to get to know any one,or maybe I am worng.Just a thought. anyway didn’t mean to make these so long but just thought I would read “what i beleive” .marina
I voted for Ministry Wife Feature Articles.. but it was really a toss up between that and Bible studies! Whatever you do in 08 will be fantastic! :)
There wasn’t a choice for more “Cow Plop” stories, and you know that’s what I come here for!
I suppose that’s because of my highly evolved spiritual nature…but you know I read whatever you write, so my vote hardly counts anyway.
I know everyone is posting about your questions, but this Georgia girl just has to say……
GO DAWGS, SIC ‘EM….WOOF, WOOF, WOOF, WOOF!
Now that’s what I’m talking about!

I think adding a “What I believe” statement on a blog is cool. Maybe I can figure out how to incorporate one myself. I’m definitely computer and cooking challenged :)
