Insane ByLaws and A Few More of My Favorite Things
I wanted to take a minute to thank all of you who have responded to the latest Married to the Ministry Survey. I am learning so much from your comments. I think I was most stunned by the Preacher Wife requirements actually being included in the church by-laws. Are you kiddin’ me, Cindy? That may have been enough to break the whole being silent in church rule cause I’d be staging me a protest over that one.
Oh, I kid.
Maybe.
I’ll be responding more fully in the next day or so but honestly, it’s Friday night and my brain is tired. That may have something to do with the fact I had to go to WalMart today. I don’t know if it’s my age creeping in on me but I can scarce make it through that place any more without breathing into a brown paper bag, whether there be square dancing competitions going on or not.
I was completely annoyed today because there were three , count them THREE, things that are my favorite things which WalMart appears to not be stocking any longer. Don’t you just hate that? It never fails as soon as I find some little thing I really like that it is discontinued. Really, people. I don’t ask for much in life so is it so bad to be disappointed when my great yogurt or cleaning supply suddenly goes MIA?
Just to give you an idea of what I’m talking about, here’s my list of sadness:
1. Honey Maid Grahams 100 Calorie Packs
I absolutely love these and I can’t find them anywhere. I can’t figure out why they are the only variety to go missing since they are the healthiest choice carb/fat/sugar wise in the entire product line. Even Amazon says they are out of stock. Hopefully I can find them in the second-hand market at Big Lots so I can restock my Suburban. A girl’s got to have comfort food in the ‘Burb at all times.
2. Mr. Clean Magic Sponge Mop Head Replacement
Now someone please tell me why a store would sell a mop and within 3 months cease to sell the replacement heads? Actually, they aren’t selling the mop either. These things are AWESOME and the only thing that will really clean our laminate flooring in the bathroom. I’ll have to go back to the olden day method of getting on my hands and knees with the original Magic Sponge to scrub the floors. I can’t even tell you how much I am looking forward to that.
3. Great Value Vanilla Low Fat/Light Yogurt
So you know I’m in the First Place group at church. One of the requirements is to have 2 servings of milk daily and considering I can’t stand it, that’s a bit of a problem for me. However, if you eat a yogurt that is less than 100 calories and sugar free, it counts as a milk instead of a carb. I have become obsessed with eating vanilla yogurt with thawed frozen strawberries mixed in. Well, guess who decided they weren’t going to stock vanilla yogurt anymore? In Great Value or Weight Watcher brand? I mean really, at this point should I take all this as a sign the Lord has removed his favor? I may be tempted to believe this if it weren’t for my number four.
4. Bama Salsa
Girls, I’m telling you there is no better store bought salsa to be had than the Collegiate brand. My WalMart was out of it for several weeks and I literally became despondent. However, in what could be no less than a work of the Holy Spirit on my behalf it showed up on the shelves again today. That almost made up for numbers 1-3.
I said almost.
So what about you girls? Do you have any favorite stuff that you can no longer find in your neck of the woods? Did you find a replacement or have you continued to long for that which you can not have?
(And for the record, I don’t think that’s sinnin’ one little bit.)
Have a great weekend!
I was upset about the vanilla yogurt, too. I am almost ready to ditch Wal-Mart as my weekly shopping venue. Milk costs over $4.00 a gallon there.
Two products I love, but can’t seem to find are the Windex Mountain Berry Cleaner and Dawn Odor Eraser Dishwashing Detergent.
Oh, I just hate it when my favorites go missing. I’m having trouble finding “O Charley’s Honey Mustard Salad Dressing.” My son and I are very upset. The other brands just don’t compare.
Woe is me!!
My son LOVES the Chips Ahoy soft-baked chocolate chip cookies. Really great for a kid with braces, especially when he’s just been to the orthodontist. But they’ve discontinued them.
Blue Bell ice cream (“the BEST ice cream in the country” and lots of y’all can’t even get it!) had a wonderful flavor a few years back: chocolate chunk. It put chocolate chip to shame. HUGE chunks of chocolate sprinkled throughout. I think they had it for 1 or 2 years.
I sometimes think the manufacturers do it deliberately just to make us buy different stuff. Makes me craaaazy!!
I got a kick out of your post. I live all over the contry (in a fifth-wheel)as my husband’s job requires travel. Talk about frustration! Every part of the country is so different where diet is concerned. Our “legal home” is in Texas where Tex-Mex is a big deal. Tascosa Hot Sauce (pecante sauce), bottled right in my home town is the best on the planet. It is impossible to find outside our area. About the time I find a “special food” in whatever part of the country we are working, we are on the move again. I share your frustrations! I think it must be God’s way of keeping me flexable or making sure I don’t get too comfortable here. I’m sure my “REAL home” (in heaven) will be stocked will all my favorites!
I can’t find Soup Starter anymore. You remember that stuff? It came in round cardboard cans, and really was an easy way to make a tasty soup. And no, I have NOT found a replacement, dangit.
Oh and Bath and Body works will NOT keep anything with mint in stock. A few years back they had Refresing Garden Mint in shower gel and lotion and everything. No longer. Then they had this great Rosemary Mint shampoo. That’s gone. Guess I’m the only one that buys that stuff.
Hey! I found you through another blog and if I were not so tired I am sure I could remember which one. At our house we drink only water – flavored water, regular water- any kind of water. I used to buy some stuff called Fulfill in a large container so I could mix up 2 gallons in our fridge dispenser……Wal-Mart no longer carries the large containers……so I have to buy the small ones that are much more expensive.
I am sure that I could go on and on with things that I cannot find in stores anymore, but for the life of me none of them are coming to me right now. As soon as I hit send 12 things will pop into my mind………
I don’t know about things I can no longer find…….expect today at the grocery story I really wanted to buy that Mr. Clean Eraser Mop you talked about and they didn’t have it.
I also have to say I have NEVER seem Bama salsa……I might have to skip it purely on the whole Bama thing. =)
Fun post…
seems like every time I get attached to something, it disappears off the shelf..
My hubby does the shopping so I just figured he can’t find it.. now I’ll have to quit getting on to him.. SMILE….
BTW, Lisa, Interesting words on CWO…. I am like you… but wish to provoke thought… I would love to discuss at some time over email… I have often wondered about the preexisting existence…
Have a blessed week
Connie
Lisa:
I am with you on Wal-Mart and their short-lived inventory. I’m just thankful they can’t can or bottle God for fear that He would turn up MIA, too! :)
Hey Lisa,
Tried to leave a comment over at the Cafe’ but it wouldn’t work. Maybe I broke the Cafe’. Hope not.
Just wanted to let you know that I love your #3 kid and if you find out that he was switched at birth, I’m pretty sure I know where he belongs. . .

Hi, I found your blog listed under “Places I Visit” on Amy Wyatt’s blog (Signs, Miracles, and Wonders). I sat and read a few posts and laughed out loud. Thanks for the grins.
As for products I can’t find anymore…DiGiorno Cheese-Stuffed Pizza in the frozen food section. My grocery store hasn’t had it in months. The other day they teased me with TWO huge signs on the freezer door advertising it. I tore one off and gave it to the manager, asking him where are the goods??! He said they don’t have any of that pizza. HUH? Yesterday, I went there and they had some of that brand, AND it was cheese-stuffed, but alas, it was “bacon cheeseburger” flavor. If I wanted a bacon cheeseburger, I’d go to Burger King. I just want my nice cheese-stuffed crust on a cheese pizza. Is that too much to ask?
By the way, your blog name caught my eye because I know another woman with the same blog title. She grew up in my former church, was the daughter of the pastor and now is married to a pastor of a growing church in Charlotte.
Kathy
so here’s my salsa question–it’s very low calorie, but if you put it on chips, forget about it. do you put it on veggies or what?
i LOVE those 100 cal packs.
oh and i loved “I’d be staging me a protest over that one.”
LOL!
I’ve got a few packs of 100 cal Honey Grahams packs in my pantry! Want me to send you a box?? I can’t think of anything right off the bat except for a peanut butter flavored ice cream that Mayfield made. I found it when I was pregnant with my 1st 2 years ago. A big bowl of that would be nice right about now!
I feel like I can contribute to your survey however I have been experiencing computer difficulties…hope it’s not too late.
In effort to save my carpet and tile-n-grout in my brand new house I was buying Wal-Mart’s FullFill (their answer to Crystal Lite) in cylinder that held 6 little tubs (each made 2 qts). I bought a cylinder each week so that my kids & hubby could have “kool-aid” without the stain potential colors. All of the sudden and without any warning…it’s gone!
I’m so serious about not having anything to stain the carpet (and I’m protesting Wal-Mart’s kool-aid aisle) that I will not buy anything else. Only h2o here! :-)
Lucky charm cereals were my favourite as a kid, but you can’t get them here in the UK anymore unless you get them from selfridges at £7 a box, it is insane I tell you!
I have been on the search for a perfect salsa that doesn’t cost a dang fortune. The best is Arriba red, but it’s worth its weight in gold. I will check this one out.
Try Activia vanilla yogurt. It is yum-my and it’ll keep ya regular ;)
(my word verification below is smgfut. That sounds like a bad word. I feel naughty just typing it.)
Don’t you just love the 100 calorie snacks????
I am so excited to have them in my “weight watchers” menu.
I live in a small town in the North Georgia mountains and we have one Wal-Mart that serves 3 small towns.
What got me was that they were out of Paper plates for weeks, and thumb tacks. How can you run out of Paper plates? And how can it be weeks before you get any more in???
I personally like the Great Value Chicken Poppers that you find in the freezer section. But it’s not a good day when they are out of them…..which happens alot.
So, I hear you on needing the paper bag to make it through.. I can’t beat the prices at Wal-Mart to feed my family, but it’s definitely NOT my favorite place to shop.
I loved this blog post.
