Is Too Much Finally Enough?
Interesting article at FoxNews today about Oprah and her over-the-top peddling of New Age Philosophy. I was personally encouraged to find that perhaps, even in the eyes of the world, she has finally gone too far.
A quote I heard from her own mouth last week in a video interview?
“God is a Feeling, not a Being.”
Oh girl, how DO you dodge the lightning?
And I shall stop right there because the soap box is tall and my stay there would be long.
And on to a much more fun topic, check back later for an announcement about the Spring Garden Tour I’m hosting in May!!
P.S. While I’m whining, can someone please tell me why the Dove Awards are on Wednesday night?
It used to be the joke around here that I dropped everything and life stopped when Oprah was on. If I was at home and it was 4:00 then my husband new exactly what I was doing. Not anymore. She has flipped her lid! And what is most sad about it is that there are people out there that are not grounded in the gospel who will beleive everything she says and does. Now, at 4:00, I am watching Barefoot Contessa……..
I heard one of our radio hosts here talking about all that! Sad to say, I don’t keep up enough with the outside world these days! I have had an issue with her belief system since I saw an episode where a woman stood up and told her and the audience that there was only ONE way to heaven, then O said, “well, i believe that there are many ways, we all just choose which route we take to get there!”
Ok….off my box now too!
I saw that!! I was pleasantly surprised that even mainstream media sees the freakiness.
I try to avoid all things Oprah when I can. I’m with you…how does she miss the wrath of God? When I think about her sphere of influence and the people who are seeking SOMETHING, I shudder!
This is a short and sweet soap box, Lisa. Well said.
“For the time will come when men will not put up with sound doctrine. Instead, to suit their own desires, they will gather around them a great number of teachers to say what their itching ears to hear. (2 Tim. 4:3)
She’s just trying to scratch an itch that only God can soothe.
So sad.
And I hear you on the Dove Awards. I have never understood that!
Explain how I can cut and paste an entire verse and it leaves out a word!
“…to say what their itching ears WANT to hear.”
its only by God grace she is still alive to say there is no Christ our Lord and, to think she does so much for so many I can’t help of think of jugement day if it’s not too late for her, “‘Go a way I never you knew”
so sad, we must pray for her to see the light the ture light. someone needs to send her an email!! marina
I mean for real!! Although, at my church we have small groups during the week instead of a service on Wednesday night. We have over 100 small groups. My group meets on Wednesday morning. I guess I will be able to watch it. Girl, this is why God gave us TiVo!!!
I just read this article before I came to your blog. I loved the article because I think it truly exposed the whole thing for what it is.
:-) Susan
So glad you linked to the Oprah article. Now I am just waiting on some prominent Christian leaders to speak out about her. Have you heard of any responses to her yet?
Dove Awards on Wednesday…Wha?!? You’d thunk they’d be thinkin’ now wouldn’t cha?
I am with amy wyatt I don’t know you but I agree with you just wait I know there will be some Christian Leader to speak out to her ,I hope its on tv and I can see that day.But I know she is losing awhole lot of viewers with these new age thing,I just hope that her heart has not harden tooo hard! by the time a Christian leader does say something.its all so sad that she has turn from the cross with all that money she still is asking herself why? am I hear whats the meaning of life?
I fear for her very soul.marina
Oh girl, I am on the same soapbox! I watched to the video. She showed just how little she knows about God when she said that she heard in a sermon that He is a “jealous God” and that turned her off to Him. She said that she didn’t need a God that was jealous of her. How stupid can you be???
And I amen on the Dove Awards. Why have it on a night when a big portion of your target audience isn’t at home???
Kelli
Preach it, sister. Amen.
In the past few years, the date of the Dove Awards hasn’t mattered, because they were taped and played later. This is the first year in a while they’re live (and the first in about 10 that I won’t be there :-( ).
I got the opportunity to share with Mom about Oprah’s views. I even told her about the big mega churches out there that don’t preach sin because people need to feel good about themselves! I am praying she heard the Lord on this one!
*sigh*
I pray for Oprah often. She is one of the most influential people in America, and can you just imagine what could happen if she let Jesus get a hold of her heart?
Just found your blog today, but I had to comment. :)
Hello! I have a friend whose daughter “begged” her mom not to read the “New Earth” book because it was evil. My friend is going to read it but believes she has enough faith and discernment to know the difference between what is truth and what isn’t. She appreciated the fact that her daughter cared enough to tell her how she felt.
Hi…new to your blog! I’m clueless abou thte Wednesday night Dove Awards. Don’t they know their entire audience will be AT CHURCH?? In the past, they haven’t aired the broadcast on the same night it happens. Maybe that’s it!
Oh, and one more thing about Oprah…my pastor once talked about the people who were going to face some terrible judgement at the Throne. Hugh Hefner, whatever the guy’s name is who started Hustler magazine and Oprah. They have led SO many people astray. It will be a very sad day when they meet their Maker.
I was surprised that anyone in the media even noticed how far Oprah was going! It would be even more surprising if another network besides FoxNews actually said something. I won’t hold my breath, though.
I watched Oprah right after I had my first child. It didn’t take long for me to realize that this woman loved her own opinion on things… it was (and will be) only a matter of time before she thinks that SHE is God (if she doesn’t already). I’m not saying that to be ugly, but I honestly do feel that way!
Lisa, I enjoy your blogs sooooo much! This is the first time I have commented, but I wanted to encourage you. Your humor is delightful and I love how you “poke fun” at yourself. Thank you for sharing your heart with us.
I have gotten on this soapbox, too! I have posted twice about Oprah, New Earth, and The Secret. At our church, the pastor has warned about it from the pulpit and an email is going out to all of the women of the church because it has penetrated the Church! So many Christian women watch Oprah and follow her- it is scary!
We need to be watchful and pray.
Many blessing, Lisa!
Sisters in Christ,
Tracy
Isn’t the whole point that we need to put our trust in God and not in people? I still love Oprah and what she has to offer. Do you 100% agree with all the entertainers you enjoy? Just seems a little unrealistic. :) I’m a believer by the way. :)
Dear Anonymous –
Certainly you are entitled to love Oprah if you want. I’m not going to say that I’ve never watched a celebrity interview or some inspirational segment (such as what she had with Lysa T.) and discounted its worthiness because she was the interviewer. Didn’t Paul say that no matter the motivation behind some ‘proclaimers’, Christ can still be preached – good can still be spread?
The point here is her New Age influence has begun to transcend everything else she does. Once one becomes a billioinaire, what else is left other than to create your own belief system and invite others to follow? I know of many women who believe Oprah is a Christian and read every single book she recommends. There’s nothing wrong with alerting our sisters that her belief system is seriously flawed and doesn’t resemble Christianity in the least.
p.s.
And no, I don’t agree with the beliefs of every entertainer I watch. I think the difference for me is that they aren’t try to sell me on their beliefs or lack thereof.
And please know I share my opinion in love towards you and everyone else here. There’s no judging from me if you happen to like Oprah. It’s personal and I totally get that. Lots of times in life we have to agree to disagree :)))
Q: What do Oprah and my feisty 3 year old daughter have in common?
A: I pray that they would harness their powers for good and not evil.
Seriously, regarding other pastors speaking out – I worry much more that so few pastors speak out about Joel Osteen, who causes infinitely more damage to the Church with his false gospel than Oprah ever will.
I agree with you, maybe the world is catching on to her mistakes. Thanks for sharing. The article on FoxNews today was very interesting. Poor Oprah, she doesn’t have a clue. She needs salvation.
I saw that interview and about puked. The part that had me almost yelling at the laptop was “why would God be jealous of me?!”
*gasp* *barf* *faint*
It’s scary what some people think.
