Ears to Hear
Tomorrow morning Son Three (9 years old) is having surgery to begin the process of removing tubes that have been in his ears for SEVEN years.
Nobody ever told me they weren’t supposed to remain that long. I figured the longer the better and credited his lack of ear infections to the long suffering tubes. However, after he began having problems a few months back, we eventually ended up at an ENT who explained the problem was not a typical infection but a rejection of the tube by the eardrum itself.
Have y’all ever heard of such? The Doc told me that 99% of tubes come out within two years but those remaining longer can cause permanent damage to the hearing. He will have to cut the tube out, remove the scar tissue, and patch the eardrum so it grow back together normally. My Boy will not be able to hear out of the ear up to six weeks. When that one is healed, he will have to return for the same process on the other ear.
Luke has a great saying, “The only minor surgery is someone else’s.” Even though we expect this to be a smooth procedure, I don’t think any of us look forward to our child being put under anesthesia and a scalpel for any reason. It also breaks my heart that he may be in pain and discomfort for so long. With that said, I would be so appreciative if you’d say a prayer for a slightly nervous boy and his slightly more nervous mom and dad.
Y’all are awesome.
“You will keep in perfect peace him whose mind is steadfast, because he trusts in you.”
~Isaiah 26:3
I’ll keep your little boy in my prayers. My brother had several surgeries as a child for tubes in his ears. I think kids outgrow the problem. He’s fine as an adult. That’s something to look forward to.
Best wishes and all our prayers.
hope everything works out ok…
My girl had to have one of hers taken out. And they patched it with some tissue from behind her ear. The biggest challenge was remembering not to blow her nose until it was healed so as not to blow the “plug” out. Otherwise, it was no big deal.
But I know you’ll be glad when tomorrow’s over! Hugs to you!
Praying for that sweet boy – and for you too. I’m pretty sure you are a normal mama for being a little nervous. I’ll be thinking of you all tomorrow!
Praying — for your boy AND for you. May God grant you peace tomorrow.
Had something very similar happen to me twice when I was much younger. It does happen.
Good luck to you and your boy.
Where will the surgery be? What time do yall have to be there?
Praying as I type.
Hugs
Becky
Praying, my friend! My younger son had to have 2 surgeries to repair a birth defect on his little penis. It is scary to hand your child over and trust other humans (and the Lord) with him, isn’t it?
Luke is right…no surgery is minor…all our breaths are in His Hands. Praying for you and your boy for a successful surgery and peace in the midst of it. Perfect peace fixed on Jesus, yes you are!
I couldn’t find it??
Have a great week!
Praying, girl!
Love to you and yours this day,
Melinda
Wow, definitely praying for him! And you!
Stopping to pray for all of you…
Joanne
I had this done when I was 7 or 8, and everything turned out great! But I totally understand your apprehension–my son had “minor” surgery last month (on his penis no less!) and I was a basket case!!
Good luck!
You both will be in my prayers today!
oh Lisa, didn’t know that about tubes either…
Having to witness our children suffering in any way is never easy, and then trying to reassure them without betraying your concern, it can be agony.
Praying God comfort and peace on you all, as well as God’s touch on every person involved in your boys proceedure.
lot’s of love, big ole hug and many blessings,
tammy
Cling to Romans 15:13 right now. I pray that “the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.” I know it is hard to see your child in pain, but by the power of the Holy Spirit you can cover him in your prayers, love and peace and he will be encouraged. Praying for your family. Love, Amy
Lisa, I will pray for you all right now. God care and protect and carry you each carefully through this surgery today. Feel His love and care for you today especially. Lord, let his healing be swift and complete. In Jesus’ name we pray.
I am praying for that sweet baby this morning. Love you guys!!
Even though I KNOW that everything will be okay, I'm a crybaby. I understand the concern of a mama, so I'm shedding a couple of tears for you. More importantly I'm saying prayers for you & your boy.
This is my prayer for you:
(Phil. 4:6-7) Father, please help Lisa to not be anxious about anything (even her boy's surgery), but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, I ALREADY KNOW THAT SHE IS presenting her requests to You, O God. So I ask that Your peace, which transcends all understanding, will guard her heart and her mind in Christ Jesus.
THANK YOU, FAITHFUL ONE!!
Lisa – I am praying for your boy. I’m like you, I thought the tubes just fell out too.
But this I do KNOW – the God of all Gods, the One who made those ears is in control. He is holding your son in His Hands and He will sustain all of you.
Keep us posted girl,
Much love,
Georgia Jan
I will be praying for you, your son, and the doctors doing the surgery.
I have been there. My 3 1/2 year old son has already had two surgeries on his ears. He has a hearing loss that the ENT is trying to correct. His ear drums do not vibrate. His speech has been greatly affected by this loss. When he was 2 he also had to have a surgery to have a hernia removed. How in the world a 2 year old can have a hernia is beyond me!
Anyway, I was so nervous during each of these surgeries to see my baby being rolled away so scared. It broke my heart. Then afterwards he was still in pain for a few days.
Knowing that the Great Physician was there guiding the doctors b/c of our prayers and holding my hands until they wheeled him back to me was the best comfort.
Covering you and your hubby and son in prayer!!
Love,
Patty
I’m praying right this very second!!!
My 7yo had tubes put in when he was younger… I don’t know if they’ve ever worked their way out or not. I think I better find out!
Lisa, thanks so much for the kind comment on my blog! Right back atcha! :)
Lisa: Consider me to be praying for you. Kim B. in AZ
Absolutely!!!
I used to have PE tubes when I was younger! Two sets to be exact. My eardrum rejected the 1st ones. Your little man is in my prayers!
Carter and I prayed for S this morning. During my prayer I asked God to keep S safe. Later out of nowhere Carter said, “Thank you, God, for keeping S safe. Amen”
Will definitely be praying!
Some things, like this, should be explained by the doctors a little better sometimes I think=) Hope the surgery goes well!
Wow – the very thing that was necessary to protect the ears at first can cause big problems later…. I had no idea. My niece had tubes in her ears and we never heard anything like that. WEIRD! I hope it all goes well.
Bless your heart! When your child is having to undergo suregery, it can be nervewracking…minor or not. Nathan had to have tubes placed in his tearducts when he was right at one year old, and it was so hard seeing him put under.
You are all in my prayers.
Xandra
oh crude – they are suppose to come out??? yikes, i better have my kids checked out… thanks!! I will pray for him and YOU now!! Love, Leigh
PS – I am back to blogging!
Praying for you all. Hope the surgery went well.
Blessings,
Dawn

Wow! I had never heard anything like that! Your family is in my prayers.
God Bless!
I was so glad to receive the text that S had made it through the surgery! Praising God for that! He is a very special little guy! God is so good!
Praying for him and all of you!
