A Break..
I’m stressed.
That’s not exactly the word I want to use to characterize myself during summer break nor do I want to be depressing but it’s just the simple truth. Long story that I won’t even pretend is short, my debit card was stolen (or rather conveniently picked up by a McDonald’s employee in the window where I accidentally left it) and a 22-year-old girl went on a shopping spree that has pushed me right off the edge of compassion into downright unrighteous indignation. My days have been filled with more visits and calls than I care to count between the police department and bank. I’m hoping to be able to soon report that my financial institution has replaced the missing funds. As of right now, they have not and I’m pretty well aggravated that the tax dollars we contributed to buy out the entire industry seemingly have not purchased any accompanying customer service. I’m assuming you only get that if you have more zeros at the end of your balance than we do and if that were the case, this whole fiasco wouldn’t be as much of one! If the issue isn’t resolved soon, I’ll be sure and let you know who it is so you can AVOID THEM LIKE THE DERN PLAGUE. I’m on the fence about whether we will keep our accounts there.
I’m sure they are devastated.
Anyway, instead of also worrying over the fact I haven’t written regularly in a while, I am going to give myself permission to relax. I’ve got some revamping to do so I’ll be gone for a little bit but hopefully back rejuvenated and ready to go at it afresh. I want to be sure and thank all of you ministry wives who filled out the Woman Beside the Man questionnaires and to apologize for not posting those as frequently as I should. You are top of my priority list when I return. Thank you for your patience!
Hope you are having a summer filled with everything you wanted to do! I’m having a long overdue yard sale the end of this week to get rid of all the things we’ve accumulated in the past four years. After that, it’s the pool baby!
Be back soon!
Hi there…I've lurked here often, over from 2nd cup…I feel your pain. I was running a ladies' group and a MOPS group was meeting at our church bldg in February and some little gangsta punk came INTO CHURCH and lifted my wallet out of my purse. Yah…don't wanna be standing next to him during a thunderstorm, if you get my drift. The good news is, that he only charged $14 worth of Slim Jims and Ho Ho's at a gas station before I cancelled it. And my banks (yes, 2 debit cards) were wonderful. I will pray for you to get everything ironed out. And also for the person who did this…yep, you deserve to relax for sure–and I hope you sell everything at a huge profit and use it to buy totally frivolous shoes and a pedi….
I'm so sorry that you are going through all of that with the banks. It is so hard when you are at their mercy.
Take time and relax. Blessings to you.
Sorry this happened to you. It reminded me of how blessed I was this past weekend. I used my credit card at the pump to buy some gas. I stuck the card in my shorts pocket and forgot about it. Later I went to a Goodwill store to shop. Getting out of the car I put my keys in my pocket. When I came out of the store (didn't buy anything) I pulled my keys out. As I was walking toward my car I heard someone calling "Mam, you dropped this." I turned to see a couple and the man was holding out my credit card. I just thanked them over and over. It's so good to know that there are honest people out there.
Lisa,
Unless your bank is locally owned, it has a parent company. Find the number, put on your nice lady voice and call them. You should have insurance on your account that covers things like this. The bank just does not want to have to eat the losss of replacing your money. Legally they have to.
Take a deep breath, sell the yard and everything in it, buy more stuff, then take a book and a cold drink and head to the pool and relax.
It's times like this that it can get kind of hard to remember Who has this all under control.
Praying for you,
Sallye
That stinks. I'm so sorry.
Big hugs.
Will be praying for favor & grace. Yep it stinks. So very sorry.
Y'all are so sweet. Yes, my bank does insure these transactions but they first told me it would be 48 hours before the money was replaced. Now they are saying 10 days!!
Lisa — glad you're giving yourself a break. Summer is crazy busy when you have young ones. It gets easier, really, it does. This is just the season God has you in. It will end soon…. like mid-August when the kids go back to school!
Seriously, I think we put so much pressure on ourselves to blog and we shouldn't. God's called you to many things and He will equip you for each of them.
Loving you and praying for your peaceful summer.
Lisa,
The same thing happened to my brother but his story is a little more bizarre in the fact the person stole his identity and cell phone number, ordered something from Vietnam and had it shipped here with isntructions to destroy the package if my brother wasn't here to get the package. His account is in the negative BIG time and his bank hasn't rushed to fix the problem.
I am so sorry this happened to you and I am praying for quick recovery of your funds!
Have a nice break.
Love you,
Patty
That totally stinks, Lisa! I’ve left my card at the McDonald’s drive thru before, but thankfully, it was still there when I figured it out. I’m praying you find all sorts of treasures to sell for a major profit and that hubs will send you forth to go get a pedi for a little help on a quick emotional recovery! We had a garage sale last summer and my daughter wanted to do it again this year. I had to put the breaks on that idea. I think the most I can handle is every other year! Enjoy your break and take some time to breathe deep and relax in His presence.
Love, Amy
Girl..that kind of stuff sends me over the edge. I went through a "mess" with our bank and some other stuff and I thought it was gonna kill me. Enjoy the break.
I declare a summer free from blogging for all of us. :)
Deep breath. It will eventually be ok.
Love you,
Fran
Hey Lisa, sorry to hear about all that. Do you get the Just Between Us magazine for women in ministry? Page 14 has a great analogy. I quoted it in my blog if you want to take a look. Its about God using adversity to keep us fresh as Christians. Remember to swim up! :)
Love from Australia,
Donna.
Oh darnit, that stinks. I'm sorry about that, I should hope your bank is going to replace the funds eventually. I had the same thing happen to me the WEEK BEFORE my wedding. Luckily my anger was replaced by "oh no, how am I going to pay my vendors?!" and I had understanding vendors. Actually I think I felt more sorry for the people that stole (and used!) my card. And yes, my money was replaced a week or so later. Don't forget — God provides.
Oh my friend.
I'm so sorry.
You take AS LONG AS YOU NEED next to that pool. I honestly think we should get a group of bloggers together and declare July a blog-free month. (Or August. I don't really care.) It would be refreshing, wouldn't it?
What a pain and a terrible way to start your summer.
Hope it gets resolved soon.
Are y'all going to the Southern Baptist Convention?
I am so sorry this happened to you. I had my debit card number stolen over the internet once and my bank treated me like I was the criminal. It's not a good feeling. It is a huge inconvenience but it will all get worked out eventually.
It's just not a fun experience. I pray everything is restored quickly so you can get on with what counts in life. May the thief come to know Jesus.
That situation alone entitles you to some R & R!
And if you don't get it resolved, I for one, want to know the bank. I am fed up with the lack of customer service. ARRGGHHH….
Sorry….
Hope it is all resolved soon!
